Edward Brian Fallon was born in Edinburgh on 10 November, 1947.

Brian Fallon, 10 November 1947-22 February 2025

A lifetime member of the Labour Party, Brian (as he preferred to be known) served as a councillor at Lothian Regional Council and Edinburgh City Council, where he was a staunch supporter of Trading Standards.

As Chair of the Committee with responsibility for Trading Standards at both local authorities, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to consumer protection and the vital work of his Trading Standards colleagues.

Brian’s support for Trading Standards was exemplified, in part, by his tireless fundraising activities; when the annual CTSI Conference was held in Edinburgh on two separate occasions, he arranged for financial support of £30,000 each time.

As well as attending the Conference every year, he was also committed to flying the flag for Trading Standards further afield, proudly wearing the Institute’s badge at meetings in the USA and Europe. He was made a Vice President of CTSI in recognition of his support.

After a lengthy period of ill health which he faced with characteristic courage and determination, Brian passed away peacefully at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on 22 February, 2025.

His family described him as a loving partner, devoted father and papa, who will be very sadly missed by Linda, Rachel, Brian and Mackenzie.

A celebration of Brian’s well-fulfilled life was held at Mortonhall Crematorium in Edinburgh on 12 March, with Mike Drewry representing CTSI.

A website has been set up where donations to Parkinson’s UK can be made in Brian’s memory. The Institute offers its sincere condolences to his family.
