Dave was brought up in Ilford, Essex and attended Newbury Park County Primary School and Ilford County High School for Boys. He met his wife Hilary while working at Harrison & Gibson’s furniture store in Ilford town centre for his Saturday job.
He spent his main working life in trading standards, commencing at the London Borough of Barking (later the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham) and qualifying as a Weights and Measures Inspector in the early 1970s before eventually being made Head of Service. In the late 1980s he left Barking and Dagenham and took up a post with the London Borough of Croydon, then the London Borough of Newham and finally Southend-on-Sea until his retirement in 2011.
He was a regular attendee at CTSI Conferences and Symposium as one of the ‘three Musketeers’ from the Southend office. He enjoyed meeting up with other members of the profession and quaffing the odd glass of beer in celebration. He was also a regular attendee at the monthly breakfast meetings at the Bell Hotel in Southend along with other retired colleagues.
In his private life, he and his wife Hilary lived in Wickford in Essex and enjoyed wine and beer making, country and line dancing, as well as involvement with the local gardening club where he often acted as a show manager.
Dave fell ill earlier this year and after a short illness passed away on 24th June, 2019.
The celebration of his life and career was held at Southend Crematorium on 11th July and was attended by friends and members of the trading standards profession.
Dave leaves his wife Hilary to whom we offer our sincere condolences.
