I want to show the variety of subjects that the Trading Standards Service brings to court, and the impact that the Service has on society

CTSI Fellow Robert Grice MBE is the author of several books including, most recently, a fascinating examination of the history of hallmarking. He is now in the early stages of writing a new book about the history of consumer protection over the centuries – and is calling on Trading Standards professionals to aid him in his research.

He explains: “I need examples of cases across the entire range of our functions: weights and measures, food, agriculture, product safety, travel, trade descriptions, hallmarking, and many more. So I am requesting that members of CTSI give me examples of their most interesting cases across the decades.

“I want to show the variety of subjects that the Trading Standards Service brings to court, and the impact that the Service has on society.”

If any members have details of cases – particularly those that show an unusual perspective on the Trading Standards Service – which they have successfully prosecuted, Robert would be grateful to receive these. As much information as you can provide about each case would be appreciated, including:

  • Date
  • Subject
  • Act
  • Court and location
  • Details of the case (including local authority)
  • Result
  • Hard copies of any newspaper articles relating to the case would also be appreciated

Please send details to robertgrice50@hotmail.co.uk, or call Robert on 07532 052352

Hard copies of documents, press cuttings and other materials can be sent to:
